During my last hour at Albury West Public School in the summer of 1988, the teacher gave fellow classmates the opportunity to farewell each other and sign their signatures on a piece of A4 paper which I still keep as a memento.
Over the years, some of the signatures have slowly faded or disappeared particularly the ones in pencil, but some noticeable names that are still visible today include:
This is a sports award ribbon that I won at the end of 1988 for the best and fairest player in soccer representing Albury West Public School.
I remember those days very well. We travelled on a bus to play different schools each week and it probably came down to three guys who could have won the award at the end of the school year. Myself, Bradleigh Howard and Michael Sinclair were scorers and playmakers who stood out.
Mr. McCann, who was my Year 6 teacher, was in charge of the soccer group and when he called out my name as the best and fairest on the school grounds, I felt extremely proud, honoured and grateful. I remember collecting this award during the Awards Ceremony on a theatre stage in front of my parents and large audience.
It ended up being the only sports award that I won in my life because I focused more on academics than sports. This award is a piece of personal history from Albury West Public School that I've looked after and kept with me since childhood.

This is an old dictionary that teachers provided students for use in class in the 1980's. It's suitable for children and is most likely not used by the primary school anymore with new dictionaries or versions published nowadays.
This dictionary is the property of the school and it is not meant for students to bring home. I must have accidently brought it with me sometime in Year 4 or Year 5 (1986-1987) while packing books in my bag at the end of the school day. Please forgive me, Albury West Public School!
It even has a faded blue stamp inside reading "West Albury Public School" as evidence that the dictionary belongs to the primary school.
This little dictionary may seem insignificant but it played a big part in helping me learn new vocabulary words, definitions and use correct spellings as I continued to grow.
